Hands Played July - 80994

Comments:

Games were amazing today as expected. It is so nice to have at least one massive donkey on every table waiting to give you his money when you get a set, AA, KK etc.

Played a pretty interesting hand near the end of the day. Villain is LAG, 26/19/3 over 300 hands. And as mentioned yesterday nobody folds to 3bets at NL5 lol. Anyways, he spaz raises the flop.

I don't normally look to get 250bb in with one pair with no history, but he is raising cbets 30% of the time and is basically nuts. He had a pretty good hand though. I only had 53% equity when the money went in.

    Hey BR79,

Just a few questions for you, I hope you don't mind! Your results are amazing - keep up the great work :-)

    - Do you feel this blog has helped your playing by discussing certain situations, keeping track of your progress, etc.?

    - Has using an HUD improved your game?

    - I noticed in your earlier postings you played higher stakes before. Would you say they are easier than the micro level (less donks?) or more challenging?

    - What resources do you / have you used to improve your playing (i.e. books, videos, forums, etc.) beyond the in-play tools such as HEM and PTR?

    - Last question that is not really poker related but I'm curious - what was your background before poker? Degree, profession, etc.? I've always found it interesting that so many successful players have math based degrees or computer related for that matter.

Thanks so much and keep up the great work!

  4. Betidiots,

Look in the 2+2 software forum for Starscash. You might want to try Dujon's suggestion though and try out TN as it is much easier to setup.

    Anon,

Yes, writing down my thoughts on certain hands certainly helps I think. But moreso, I had a problem for a longtime in not playing enough. Posting hand numbers each day and now having a fair amount of readers as well, helps keep me accountable.

Yes, I am getting better at using a HUD now and it certainly is a big help at times.

Higher stakes are certainly more challenging/harder. Way less people giving their money away. Regs are better. The only thing that is easier about high stakes is you take a lot less ridiculous beats than at the micros, cuz people aren't getting it in with king high against you or any draw etc.

Resources to improve my game. Read the 5th comment down on the Thursday, July 15, 2010 post.

I have a degree in History and Philosophy. I don't really have any kind of extensive work background. Just various menial jobs.

  5. I think your shove on the flop is fine against a player like that. Most of the time you'll probably have him dominated or at least a 70%+ win percentage. It just sucks that he happened to have the flush draw this time, and if he's got the literal nothing (I mean, he called your 3-bet with 79 suited, I'm sure he'll have nothing some time), he either ships you infinite or folds and you get a nice pot. :)

Did he end up paying you off later that session?

  6. No, I quit shortly after. He might be a winning player. Although winnings LAG's at micros are very rare.
